This woman owns a small provisions shop and posted a simple video showing one loaf of bread that stayed fresh on her shelf for 2 full months. No mould, no bad smell and the bread was still soft as if it was freshly baked. She did not mention any company name or show the wrapper clearly. She only asked the question that worries many of us: “What exactly are they putting inside our bread?” Instead of giving answers, one bread company has hit her with a ₦50 million lawsuit. How can this be happening in our Naija? This is a reckless move by the bread company. You were not doxxed by the short video and if you were worried about your reputation, there are better steps you would've taken. Rather than opening your factory to show the ingredients or publicly testing that loaf to clear the air, you chose to bully a small shop owner who is simply trying to feed her family. With inflation biting hard, bread prices have skyrocketed. A medium loaf of bread that once cost far less now sells for ₦500 to ₦1,500 depending on the size. How much does she make?Normal bread, which most Nigerians love, costs between ₦500 and ₦1,000 for a medium size today and usually spoils within 3 to 7 days unless refrigerated. Even packaged sliced bread is not expected to last more than 10 to 15 days in our hot climate, according to food safety standards. But according to this shop owner, this particular loaf remained fresh for over 60 days! Bread prices have increased by more than 600% since 2016, meaning we are paying heavily for these long lasting, heavily preserved loaves that may pose serious long term health risks, from digestive problems to worse issues. People eat this bread every day.NAFDAC should step in and investigate this bread company. This rascality by "money miss road" entrepreneurs need to stop. It is not life that we are living in Nigeria
