Call for Volunteers at AIPP Org (500 USD Monthly Allowance)

The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) is a regional organisation of Indigenous Peoples’ movements, with 46 member organisations in 14 countries in Asia. Its Secretariat is in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Over the past three decades, AIPP has built a regional movement of Indigenous Peoples in Asia, and its membership has grown steadily. It works through seven thematic programmes (Organizational Strengthening and Movement Building; Human Rights Campaign Policy Advocacy Programme; Environment Programme; Indigenous Women Programme; Land, Territories and Resource Programme; Communication Programme; and Regional Capacity Building) and six regional networks and forums on Indigenous Peoples’ Human Rights Defenders, Indigenous Knowledge, women, land, media and youth. Together they address issues affecting Indigenous Peoples in Asia through capacity building, advocacy and lobbying, and networking.

II. Purpose of the role

The Communication Volunteer will help AIPP share the work, voices and priorities of Indigenous Peoples in Asia through its website, social media and publications. The volunteer will report to the Secretariat Coordination Committee (SCC) and work closely with AIPP’s ICT Officer.

III. Duties and responsibilities

Draft stories and short articles on AIPP’s work and publications for the website and social media, in consultation with Programme Coordinators and Programme Officers.

Support the ICT Officer in updating AIPP’s websites, social media accounts and other communication channels.

Work with the ICT Officer to prepare flyers and visual materials for regional and international activities, including side events.

As needed

Edit and proofread publications and advocacy materials at the request of AIPP programmes.

Help organise and maintain AIPP’s photo, video and music archives.

Help review and update AIPP’s Communication Strategy and support its implementation.

IV. Who can apply

Strong writing and editing skills in English.

Excellent knowledge of the situation of Indigenous Peoples in Asia.

Demonstrated experience in writing articles, feature stories, or other communication materials related to Indigenous Peoples, their rights, cultures, knowledge systems, and community initiatives.

Experience with social media, basic design tools (such as Canva) and photo or video editing.

Able to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setting.

V. Duration

Six months, from November 2026 to April 2027. The assignment may be extended, depending on performance and available funds.

VI. Time commitment

16 hours per week, normally two 8-hour days including a lunch break, on days agreed with the SCC. The volunteer is expected to be available during AIPP office hours (9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Thailand time) on those days. Hours can be adjusted by agreement to allow for time differences, and the volunteer may occasionally be asked to help with urgent tasks.

VII. Working arrangement

The role is home-based. The volunteer works from their home country using their own laptop and internet connection, and joins team meetings online.

VIII. Allowance

USD 500 per month, paid by bank transfer, to cover living and communication costs. This is a volunteer allowance, not a salary.

IX. What the volunteer will gain

Practical experience in communications with a regional Indigenous Peoples’ organisation.

Mentoring from the AIPP Secretariat team and exposure to regional and international advocacy.
