I rejected a girl who was PERFECT for the job.

I rejected a girl who was PERFECT for the job. She had 4 years experience. Amazing portfolio. Nailed the interview. My team loved her.

I sent her details to my boss to approve her salary: 65k. That's what she asked for. That's literally the budget we posted.

My boss said, "Offer her 52k. She really wants this job, she'll take it. If she says no, we'll go up a little."

So I called her. Told her, "We loved you, we'd like to offer you 52k."

Silence. Then she said, "But the posting says 60k-70k? I asked for 65k which is in the middle."

I had to lie. I said, "Yeah, that budget changed. 52k is our max now.

She said, "Okay, can I have 24 hours to think?"

My boss laughed when I told him. He said, "See, she's thinking about it. Told you she'd take it."

She emailed next morning: "Thank you, but I have to decline."

My boss was SO mad. He said she was "unprofessional and money-hungry" and "not passionate about the company."

Sir. She has rent to pay. Passion doesn't pay rent in this economy.

We hired another guy who accepted 52k. He left in 6 months, now that has been the circle.

And we keep blaming the candidates.

I can’t criticize him because he is my boss.
