💥 At about 7:30pm on Monday, October 26, two armed men riding a motorcycle stopped in front of the home of Sheikh Yahaya Ibrahim Masussuka in Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria. They opened fire on the prominent Islamic cleric and his friend, Adamu Abubakar, killing both of them.<div><br></div><div>Until his assassination, Sheikh Masussuka had faced threats for preaching religious tolerance and advocating for peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths. He was known for his Quran-centred teachings, his opposition to violent extremism and his efforts to promote peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians.</div><div><br></div><div>Some northerners who had accused him of being an enemy of Islam, an unbeliever and someone trying to confuse Muslims are now celebrating his murder online. In their cowardly belief that their own interpretation of Islam is the only correct one, they killed an innocent man.</div><div><br></div><div>May God grant Sheikh eternal rest in Jannah.</div>
